New York City…The Perfect Place to Retire

What do today’s retirees want? They want a sense of community; to easily and safely attend events, activities and shopping without having to drive; and to have the opportunity to experience all that life has to offer now that they finally have time to enjoy themselves.  New York City, known as the Capital of the World and the City that Never Sleeps is the ideal retirement community for the four million people that say goodbye to the 9-5 and hello to retirement each year.

A recent New York Times article, For A Long Life, Retire to Manhattan, makes the case that New York’s vast theater, shopping and cultural institutions are perfect for older adults looking to retire.  Why then are we the only city which does not have a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), also known as a Life Plan Community? Why should New Yorkers be forced to flee this treasure trove in search of such a community?

CCRCs offer peace of mind.  As older adults age, and healthcare needs become more complex, these communities are able to address and accommodate them.   This lifts a tremendous burden off of one’s shoulders, knowing that no matter what the future may hold, they will be well cared for in the comfort of their home.

RiverSpring Health will be developing New York City’s first CCRC.  It will overlook the majestic Hudson River and Palisades and will be a community where older adults can discover their passion for the arts, enjoy a walk along the Hudson and maintain an active lifestyle.  Riverdale provides an idyllic setting for retirement, with its hometown feel, tree-lined streets and neighborly merchants.  For nearly one hundred years, our mission of care has been to help older adults lead full lives, living forward with safety, dignity and respect.  This next chapter is an ideal way to enter our second century of care.

In the not too distant future, New Yorkers ages 60+ will comprise 35% of this city’s population. Let’s welcome them to Riverdale by providing them with a retirement community as exciting and dynamic as our city.

Live Forward,
