THE CENTER FOR OLDER ADULT SEXUALITY
AGING DOES NOT MEAN A LOSS OF SEXUAL INTIMACY and, in support of this truth, in 1995 the Hebrew Home authored the nation’s first sexual rights policy for older adults in health care settings. In staying current with times and trends, and in advancing this newer area of resident care and welfare, the Home has updated its policy.
Our updated policy now covers much ground pertaining to Alzheimer’s and dementia – specifically matters of sexuality and consent.
Our policy now includes a definition and guideline for addressing matters of consent to sexual activity, and sparking a dialogue between professionals and older adults. Policy spells out resident rights, staff and organizational responsibilities. Guideline helps professionals to ask questions in assessing consent to sexual activity.
