Hebrew Home

The Hebrew Home at Riverdale is an internationally recognized non-profit geriatric care organization offering a full continuum of senior care ranging from modern apartments for independent seniors to the most intense level of nursing care. The Hebrew Home serves more than 10,000 older adults in greater New York.

Since its founding in 1917, the Hebrew Home at Riverdale has grown to include a long-term residential elder care facility located on 32-acres along the Hudson River, a senior housing community with both luxury independent living apartments and assisted living, and ElderServe, the community services division. ElderServe offers a full spectrum of in-home geriatric care and supportive services for people living at home. In addition, in 2005 the Hebrew Home opened The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention, providing the nation’s first shelter for victims of elder abuse in the community.

Living Well Blog - Beating the Burrr: Winter Safety Tips for Older Adults

The winter months can bring some nasty weather—frigid temperatures, snow, ice, and wind. While the colder weather can be enjoyable for building snowmen with the kids or cuddling up by the fireplace with a book, it can also be dangerous, especially for our loved ones who are older.

With a near century of history, the Hebrew Home at Riverdale is just getting started. Our roots are deep, yet we are not the same organization that opened its doors in Harlem in 1917. Over the years, our programs and services have expanded – a reflection of the changing healthcare landscape and the ability to anticipate the evolving needs of older adults. In addition to our award-winning nursing home, we help thousands of older New Yorkers live forward through a full-range of care solutions, including rehabilitation, independent living, managed long-term care, assisted living, and more. Short Term Shelter, Long Term Benefits - blog post by Jay Sterman with Malya Levin

As a second year law school student, I accepted a summer internship with the Weinberg Center for Elder Abuse Prevention with a rather typical goal in mind: to gain as much legal experience as possible in the areas of elder law and family violence. As my summer at the Weinberg Center comes to a close, I realize that substantive legal knowledge is just one part of what I will take away from my time here. Equally powerful was what I learned about the dedication and persistence required when working with clients in crisis like the victims of elder abuse at the Weinberg Center. Read more
